VIOLA
If you have a viola, here is the best way to remember the names of your strings:
Cats Go Down Alleys. So, from the fattest string to the skinniest string, they go C G D A.
We are only using the two skinniest strings (unless your group has reached page 26 in the book.) Remember that your viola goes on your left shoulder and you hold your bow with your right hand.
On the D string, if you put down three fingers (ring finger, middle finger and pointer finger) you get the note G
If you take off your ring finger, you now have two fingers left and you get the note F.
If you take off your middle finger, you now have one finger down (pointer finger) and you get the note E.
If you take off your pointer finger, you get the note low D.
On the A string, if you put down three fingers (ring finger, middle finger and pointer finger) you get the note high D.
If you take off your ring finger, you now have two fingers left and you get the note C.
If you take off your middle finger, you now have one finger down (pointer finger) and you get the note B.
If you take off your pointer finger, you get the note A.
These are all the notes needed to play our songs.
Please continue to work on page 11, numbers 31 and 32 and on page 24, number 89, and Tribal Chant and French Folk Song. If you don't have French Folk Song or Tribal Chant, review number 21 on page 9 and number 57 on page 18.
