BASS
If you have a bass, here is the best way to remember the names of your strings:
Goats Dance After Eating. So, from the skinniest string to the fattest string, they go G D A E.
We are only using the two skinniest strings (unless your group has reached page 26 in the book.) Remember that your bass held leaning on your left side and your left hand fingers on the strings and you hold your bow with your right hand.
To play low D, just play the D string with no fingers.
To play E, put your pointer finger on the highest tape of the D string.
To play F, spread your fingers on the D string with your pointer finger on the top tape and your pinky on the second tape of the D string.
To play G, just play the G string with no fingers.
To play A, put your pointer finger on the highest tape of the G string.
To play B, spread your fingers on the G string with your pointer finger on the top tape and your pinky on the second tape of the G string.
To play C, move your hand down to third position (the lower two tapes on the G string) and use your pointer and middle finger to press down on the first of the lower tapes of the G string.
To play high D, add your ringer finger and pinky so that your pinky rests on the lower of the third position tapes. (keep your middle and pointer finger on the string so that you have four fingers pressed down.)
These are all the notes needed to play our songs.
Please continue to work on page 11, numbers 31 and 32 and on page 24, number 89, and Tribal Chant and French Folk Song. If you don't have French Folk Song or Tribal Chant, review number 21 on page 9 and number 57 on page 18.
