HELP!
What if my bow sounds scratchy or squeaky?
If your bow sounds squeaky or scratchy as you play remember to check these things:
Is my bow between the bridge and the fingerboard? If you play really close to the bridge (the fancy white piece of wood under your strings) or the fingerboard (the long black piece of wood you put your fingers on) the bow does not sound good. Move your bow to be right between them and parallel to the bridge to get the best sound.
Are my fingers pressed tightly on the strings – you may need to try this a couple times before you get them tight enough.
Is my bow on the right string? Sometimes we don’t put our bow on the same strings as our fingers. Check your bow and fingers first before you start playing.
Am I touching a string lightly with my finger when it says 0 fingers? This makes a screechy sound.
Try to get just one note to sound right. If you are getting frustrated, go back to plucking the notes first so that you are confident with plucking and then start with your bow slowly.
You only need more rosin if your bow makes no sound. It will not help squeaking or scratchy sounds. Try wiping off rosin if the strings appear white. Do this with a dry piece of cloth.

My instrument doesn't sound right. Is it in tune?
Your instrument may be out of tune after nearly a month. Do not try to tune it yourself. First try playing your song slowly making sure your fingers are on the tapes. You will be able to play songs that are only on one string in tune even if your strings are not in tune with each other.
